Dressember 2011 Review

This was hand's down the best year of Dressember to date: Over 55 documented participants, and we took a new medium by storm-- instagram! I had a blast this year, and the month flew by faster than ever.

Here's a look at my Dressember 2011:

Over the 31 days, I wore 24 dresses. Last year, I wore the same seven dresses restyled all month, and in 2009, the year I started up Dressember, I wore a different dress every day all month. Every year I feel challenged in a new way, and learn to appreciate Dressember for a new reason.

I'd love to hear about your experiences/thoughts on Dressember-- either as a participant or as a "bystander." Even if you're a boyfriend/husband to someone who participated, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Leave a comment or email me at blythehill(at)gmail(dot)com.

I loved following Dressember on your blog. I want to participate next year for sure! I'm going to try and find you on Instagram now. I didn't know I could follow everyone there! Are you going to do a linky party so we can see all the participants?

It has been so fun to watch Dressember happen the last few years and I have been keeping an eye on it with you and others. I have to say, although I did not participate, I was totally inspired by it. Just last night I wore a dress, and, being an almost never dress wearer, I felt a little worried about wearing a DRESS just to eat DINNER. It felt like it might be too much (I mean, I NEVER wear dresses). Then I realized that it was silly, and the dress was SO CUTE, and I thought of all of your cute dresses, felt inspired, and wore the dress happily. I'm glad that you have been doing Dressembers.

I'm gutted my camera broke so I couldn't post all my Dressember fun but it's been brilliant seeing how you've been styling yours.

I only made it to day 23 (plus New Year's Eve) for Dressember but that was longer than I made it last year so I still think that's a win.

The pros for me were:
(+) dresses were often more comfortable than pants would be, or even some skirts

(+) I got to make it through 3/4 of my dresses and be honest about what was not working on some of them so I now know what to tell the tailor (before I was just avoiding wearing them)

(+) it made me feel more presentable

(+) I remembered you can wear comfortable leggings under dresses and boots with socks instead of tights, which upped the comfort level

The cons were:

(-) I ran out of tights more quickly than I thought

(-) having to bring legwarmers when it was really cold out for my commute home/night out

(-) taking a picture every single day! eventually this got to me.

I ran out of steam when I had some vacation days to take care of home stuff like moving furniture. I just couldn't justify wearing a dress to move furniture. Or the day I had to do field work for my job - which consists of being on the ground too scout under objects sometimes.
