My friend Emily emailed me this video to let me know that our old high school, Shorewood (in Seattle- also Dave Bazan's alma mater, by the way), is taking part in creating some fun "lip dub" videos. Apparently lip dub means: lip singing to an entire song in a single take. Shorewood is battling with its rival Shorecrest (Rainn Wilson of The Office's alma mater) to create the best/most original vid. Shorecrest made a video to Outcast's "Hey Ya," which is pretty cool, and then Shorewood responded by creating this video, to Hall and Oates' "You Make My Dreams Come True." In reverse. !!

Finishing Strong

It's December 29th! That means there are only TWO DAYS left of December, which means there are only two days left of Dressember! Since I still haven't repeated a dress yet, I'm going to finish strong without repeating.

Dressember Catch up, days 19-24

I haven't posted Dressember pictures for several days, so I have a bit of catching up to do. The past week has been a whirlwind, really. Finals, press week at The Gazette, then I shot two weddings this weekend with Shannon! And then Christmas prep on top of all that? Yikesies.

I want to take a moment to point out my dedication to Dressember: Even though I shot two weddings, I kept in the dress-wearing spirit.

Amy and I decided to take some jumping pictures on Monday. We have fun at work.

I was willing to let Jen and Amy receive partial credit for their skirts on Tuesday,
(by the way those sweet pinkish purple tights were an early gift from Jordan! Great positive reinforcement for my wild tights fetish...!)

Dressember, days 16-18

It's really hard to tell, but my tights were actually quite bright blue:

I picked this next one (out of several from our mini-shoot) because I have no idea what's happening in it. Is Amy winking like a pirate? Am I River Dancing?

Notice the socks I took a bit of flack for wearing ("Are you going to a sock hop later?" was one noteworthy joke at my expense). Mark my words though: you'll be seeing more socks popping up in the coming months- from anklets to knee highs. Embrace it.

Today, tired and unphotogenic,

Have also had to put up with stares and comments for those floral leggings. I will admit that at first glance, it looks like my legs are covered in tattoos.

I came into the office unexpectedly the other day, and caught Amy in pants. Pants! Am I the only one dedicated to Dressember?? Sigh. It seems that make be the case, but that only makes my purpose more resolute, and my dedication that much stronger! ;)

I forgive you, Amy. I really do.

This week will probably bring a repeat...I'm running out of dresses...
Even though it wasn't the original point to wear a different dress all 31 days, I'm trying to avoid boredom/redundancy. We'll just see what it comes to.

I finally saw Fantastic Mr. Fox this weekend!

I am glad Wes Anderson made this movie. I think he did a fine job.
Usually I have to be in a certain mood to watch his films though because, in my opinion, he focuses a lot on cinematography and character studying, which is great, but not always quite enough on plot. For my liking. Here he is now,

Look at that- 2 film recommendations in one week! And after all that talk about never feeling like recommending movies...

Grey Gardens

Just saw the film Grey Gardens, which is a movie about a documentary that was made in the 70s about the aunt and cousin of Jackie O,

after hearing about it from Shannon. It was such a compelling story, and the costumes were fabulous,

My friend Erin

Erin was my first friend in college. We met in a critical thinking class freshman year (taught by a professor we still lovingly imitate), and clicked immediately.
I think Erin is the only friend from college that I still talk to on a fairly regular basis. We went through a bit of a dry spell though, getting busy in our different worlds (Lake Forest is a bit far from Lakewood, in our defense), but I was able to catch up with her a bit the other day, and was reminded of all the reasons she's great and worth having as a friend, long-term style.

Erin is a ceramics major, and she has a cool studio space that I embarrassed her by photographing,

Did I mention she makes some really great and thought provoking pieces of art? Well, she does. Big time.

Dressember

I've been wanting to do a month-long theme of clothing for awhile; I was inspired by silk scarves, and the shamefully large number of them I've amounted. I thought it would be fun to wear a scarf every day for a month. I still haven't gotten to that, unfortunately, but I think I will, one of these months.
A new, similar inspiration came about regarding dresses. I love dresses, and have amounted quite a few of those too. I wore a dress yesterday, on December 1st, and thought, "What if I wore only dresses all month?" When I thought up "Dressember," I knew I had to go for it.

So, my plan is to wear a dress every day for the month of December, just for the heck of it. Just to add a little bit of spice to life, you know? Why the heck not. Oh, and for the record, I'm not super concerned about whether or not I'll be repeating dresses. There won't necessarily [read: intentionally] be 31 different dresses for the 31 days, merely 31 days of dresses.
At the risk of appearing terribly vain and/or shallow, here goes.

I plan on posting these semi-sporadically: perhaps one at a time sometimes, but more likely two or three every few days. They'll be marked with what day out of the 31 days (15/31 for the 15th of December, for example), and I'll label all related posts with "Dressember" (see "Labels" below this post or on side bar to the right).
Also, I just got those boots, so they might appear all.the.time. I love those guys.

Merry Christmas to me?

I've had my eye on these Steve Madden boots for awhile now, and when they went on sale and Jordan's mum offered to let me use her Nordstrom discount, I couldn't resist. I tried to resist, really. But in the end, I gave in.

Is anyone else guilty of splurging on themselves during all these holiday sales? I always feel so guilty for buying anything for myself when I'm supposed to be buying other people presents. Which is why I try to stick to online gift-shopping lately....

This one's for Shannon

This is Shannon. She is my best friend, and today is her birthday. Here is a picture of Shannon's hair being blown by the wind in Palm Springs. (I didn't take the picture. I wasn't even in Palm Springs on this occasion, but that is beside the point)

Shannon and I have talked about how birthdays can be kind of awkward because you don't want to make your friends celebrate you on a certain day. We thought it would be a better idea for your friends to pick a random day, get others involved, and surprise you by celebrating you. That makes it more of a choice.
But since we've talked, I've been thinking: time moves awfully fast, and sometimes you need a yearly reminder. That may seem like a funny, roundabout way of saying it, but what I mean is that I don't mind having a day devoted to celebrating Shannon. She's easy to celebrate, and I celebrate her friendship each day, in my heart.
I love her thoughts, the way she sees the world, and the pictures she takes that meld the two together, somehow.
